Rabbi Shmuel and Mrs. Draizy Lefkowitz

Rabbi Shmuel Lefkowitz grew up with a deep passion for Jewish outreach and community building. Raised in his parents' Chabad House in Suffern, New York, he was immersed from an early age in welcoming guests, helping with community programs, and making every person feel valued, respected, and connected. Watching his parents open their home and hearts to people from all walks of life inspired his lifelong commitment to serving others.

During his years in yeshiva, Rabbi Lefkowitz spent time visiting Chabad centers on college campuses across the country. There, he witnessed firsthand the dedication of the Chabad emissaries who inspired and supported students, faculty, and members of the broader Jewish community. Through the meaningful relationships he built with students and families alike, he developed a lasting passion for creating welcoming Jewish communities where people of all backgrounds feel at home.

Mrs. Draizy Lefkowitz was blessed to grow up in Maine, where she watched her parents, Rabbi Moshe and Chana Wilansky, founders and directors of Chabad of Maine, devote their lives to serving the Jewish community throughout Portland and beyond. From a young age, she loved welcoming guests, helping with community programs, and building meaningful relationships with people of all ages.

Building on those experiences, Draizy had the opportunity to travel throughout the world, volunteering and working at Chabad centers in communities across the globe. She helped lead holiday programs, educational initiatives, and community events, connecting with children, college students, young professionals, families, and seniors. These experiences strengthened her passion for Jewish outreach and gave her a deep appreciation for the unique needs of Jewish communities everywhere.

Together, Rabbi Shmuel and Draizy are dedicated to strengthening Jewish life throughout Midcoast and Central Maine by serving the local Jewish community while fostering vibrant Jewish experiences for students at Bowdoin College, Bates College, and the surrounding campuses. Through educational programs, holiday celebrations, social events, and personal connections, they strive to create a warm and inclusive Jewish home where every Jew can connect, grow, and feel a true sense of belonging.

Rabbi Shmuel and Draizy are the proud parents of four wonderful children, Mendel, Levi, Mussie, and Nechama, who share in the warmth and spirit of their home. Together, the Lefkowitz family is committed to creating a welcoming environment where every person feels like family. Whether you are a longtime community member, a college student, or visiting the area for the first time, they look forward to welcoming you through their doors and sharing meaningful Jewish experiences together.
